Career and early life -

Gautam Adani was born on June 24, 1962, in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India, to Shantilal and Shanta Adani. He has seven brothers and sisters. His family was in the textile industry. From an early age, he was ambitious and motivated. He was uninterested in studies and dropped out as a youngster. He then attended Gujarat University but did not finish his degree. He was interested in business but had no plans to join his father's textile firm.

When he was 18, his business zeal drove him to leave Ahmedabad and go to Mumbai. The young guy was determined to make it great despite having just a few hundred rupees. After working as a diamond sorter at Mahindra Brothers for a few years, he decided to start his own diamond trading firm. His firm thrived, and he was a billionaire by the age of 20. His older brother had just acquired a plastic business in Ahmedabad and had requested Gautam Adani to assist him in operating it.


Adani returned to Ahmedabad and began working with his brother. Soon after, he started commodities trading by importing Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC), a major raw ingredient in the manufacture of plastic, and travelled to South Korea, where he struck a contract to import PVC.

He founded Adani Exports Limited in 1988. (now known as the Adani Enterprises Ltd). The corporation began with agricultural goods and electricity and has grew over time. The 1991 liberalisation and economic changes improved Adani's business, increasing sales and profits. Adani was able to swiftly develop his firm because to the favourable business climate.


The Gujarat government sought private entities to administer the Mundra Port in 1993, and Adani secured the contract in 1995. It was originally run by Mundra Port & Special Economic Zone Ltd, which was subsequently renamed Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (APSEZ). It is now the biggest private multi-port operator in India.

Gautam Adani founded Adani Electricity Limited, the Adani Group's power sector unit, in 1996. The firm is India's biggest private power generator as well as the country's largest solar power producer. The Adani Group is a global Indian company headquartered in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Gautam Adani launched it in 1988 as a commodities trading enterprise, with the flagship company Adani Enterprises Limited.

Gautam Adani married Preity Adani, with whom he had two kids. Karan Adani is the eldest son, while Jeet Adani is the younger. His wife, Preeti, is a dentist who also helps Gautam with his work as the managing trustee of the Adani Foundation, particularly in the area of education. She is involved in various educational programmes for youngsters. Karan Adani received his bachelor's degree in economics from Purdue University in the United States. He joined his father's company after finishing his education.


Karan was appointed as CEO of Adani Ports and SEZ (APSEZ) on January 1, 2016. Since 2009, he has been in charge of the development of Adani ports around India. In 2013, he married Paridhi Shroff, the daughter of Cyril Shroff, probably India's most prominent business lawyer. Karan is completely responsible for the Adani Group. Gautam Adani, a billionaire industrialist, is the world's sixth wealthiest person. According to Forbes' Real-Time Billionaires List, Adani's net worth is $100.0 billion. He was just eclipsed by Mukesh Ambani, who now ranks sixth with a net worth of $102.9 billion (as of June 10, 2022).

The Adani Group has become India's third conglomerate with a market valuation of more than $200 billion. It has spawned a number of industries, including renewable energy, transmission, and municipal gas distribution. The company's present emphasis is on several fields such as solar manufacturing, defence, airports, highways, and green companies.

Adani Group's stock has increased by more than 120% in only one month, while Adani Wilmar has increased by more than 87% within the same time.

- Gautam Adani was a captive at the Taj Hotel on the sad 26/11. Adani and the other captives were sheltering in the hotel's basement. He and the other captives were freed the following morning by NSG commandos.

Gautam Adani left his B.Com in the second year and relocated to Mumbai. In Zaveri Bazaar, he worked as a diamond sorter.

- Gautam Adani went on a school trip to Kandla Port as a youngster.
